A new gameplay but in the same universe

SteamWorld Build embraces the genres of simulation, construction and strategy, a true management game. You must excavate the abandoned mines beneath your city in search of ancient technology to escape imminent destruction.

However, in order to accomplish your task, you must build the largest possible force of miners, prospectors and mechanics, and to do this, you need to manage your town.

Before thinking about unearthing untold riches, the player needs to focus on generating a workforce through residential housing. With this, you have to build all the needs of the residents around you, to keep them satisfied.

SteamWorld Build is challenging

As you might expect, SteamWorld Build is a challenging game. As your city expands, new types of citizens are needed. From simple residents to miners, from miners to prospectors, from prospectors to aristobots and finally to guards.

As a result, everyone has their own needs, so you may have to manage the flow of goods up and down the mine, or make progress in negotiations at the train station.

Challenging but not complex

SteamWorld Build is indeed an extremely challenging game, but not at all complex. The challenges arise as the player himself imposes the need. While you're looking after the city, there's little difficulty.

On the first level of the mine, things start to develop, and after you go down another floor or two of the mine, things can seem a little more complicated. However, the game doesn't let you down at any of these points.

You feel welcomed and on top of every situation, as the game is full of tutorials (which can be turned off) that help you understand what the next objective is, or how to better manage your resources.

Not to mention that the game also has three difficulty levels. In my case, I played on the intermediate level, and I think everything is pretty evenly matched, even taking into account the fact that I'm not so used to management games.

An exclusive game for fans of the series?

If there's one thing SteamWorld Build it's not, it's an exclusive game for those who have played the previous two games in the universe.

SteamWorld Build is not treated as a sequel, but as a game set in the same universe. It is, in its simplified form, a notorious management game. But with a certain charm: a good story.

Is it worth playing SteamWorld Build?

The version I was able to try out was the PC version, so I don't know how the performance and controls are on consoles, but based on this experience, I can say that it's a must-buy for fans of the genre.

SteamWorld Build doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it brings a new air to the franchise, and manages to capture the hand of new players not only in the universe, but also in the genre, so that, in the long run, SteamWorld is greater than ever.

It's a game that doesn't complicate your life, it's addictive and an excellent pastime. Highly recommended and, once again, indispensable for management addicts.

SteamWorld Build arrives on December 1st for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
