Raccoo Venture brings back the fun of the 90s - Review

Quality platform games are in short supply these days, even more so when you consider games of this style with a high budget. And when one is announced that appears to be of high quality, a large part of the gamer public is hyped. An example of this is Astro Bot itself, and I don't even need to talk about any of the Mario games.

It's an extremely important genre for the industry as a whole, because you could say that games emerged from this genre and grew to the point where we have everything we have today. But despite this, it's a genre that is lacking in the market, as I've already said. There are plenty of games out there, I must admit, but when you isolate the quality ones, unfortunately if you're outside the world of Nintendo, the options are few and far between.

And then, lo and behold, a Brazilian studio in partnership with QUByte Interactive brings us a simple, nostalgic and super fun 3D platform game. And there is no word that better defines this game, fun! We've had our eye on it for a few years now, and we've finally been able to get our hands on it.

Raccoo Venture

As I said, it's a 3D platform game that takes us back to the 90s, especially the Nintendo 64 games. But I'm not much of a Nintendo fan, and my first memory of playing this game was Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which is one of the most fun games I've played on PlayStation, and which is also available on PC.

The two games are very similar in terms of structure, but for those who haven't played either of them, I'll explain more or less how it works. Well, it's a 3D platform game, so you can walk in all directions, jump, grab objects and hit the enemies you encounter.

The camera remains fixed on the character at all times, with a bird's eye view of him. The objective couldn't be simpler: get through the levels. But even though you know what to do, it's not that simple. The game is divided into several "chunks", which have a few stages available. Once you've completed all the stages, you can move on to another chunk, but there's a catch...

Each of the stages can be explored, as much as it can be explored, because in order to get from one piece to another, you need to collect certain items in the stages, and they won't always appear in your face during the stages. And that, in a way, leads us to...

Game history

Which is just as simple. We're literally Raccoo Venture, because we're a raccoon from the Venture family, whose inheritance includes some chess pieces. However, one day, during an adventure, the raccoon returns home and discovers that his house has been robbed.

So we set off after the thieves: a bunch of armadillos. As I said above, these are the enemies you face in the game. When I said that you can hit the enemies, that's because you jump and fall hard on top of them. Those who can...

We have different types of enemies in this game, the most normal ones we defeat in the way I've just mentioned. Some enemies take more than one blow to defeat, while others can't be defeated at all. There are also some boss battles that are considerably long, but simple.

Cute

The game's visuals don't draw much attention at first glance, but they are very pleasant to play. Everything is very simple, don't expect character models and scenery with thousands of polygons, everything is literally very simple, but that's still a good thing.

It's a game with a very childish look, which I believe is the audience, both for its visuals and its simple story. But that's far from a demerit either, after all, almost all games in this genre are like that. Raccoo is the most detailed character, obviously, and we even have several different skins for him.

Is it worth it?

Having said all that, thinking about it now, I'm not sure I can think of any negative point for Raccoo Venture other than its simplicity. Again, this is not necessarily a negative point, but a choice. And I think that in this case, simplicity fits perfectly.

As I said, it's a fun, nostalgic game that will give you a few hours of fun. It's entirely in Portuguese, and because it's a Brazilian game, buying a copy of it will strengthen our domestic market even more. And the fact that it's a BR game isn't even such a strong point, considering the fun it provides, you'll hardly regret it.
