An entourage of 57 Brazilian game development studios is about to cross the Atlantic to bring great news, experiences and products from the national industry to the global market.
Led by Abragames (Brazilian Association of Game Developers), through the Brazil Games - sectoral export project carried out by the association in partnership with the ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) -, the delegation will take part in two of Europe's main gaming events: DevCom (Developer Conference), which focuses on the developer ecosystem and takes place from August 20 to 22, and gamescom, the world's largest gaming event for consumers and the sector's biggest business platform in Europe, which will be held from August 23 to 27. Both events take place in Cologne, Germany.
"This year's trip has a very special meaning for the Brazilian game development industry. In addition to the incredible presence of almost 60 studios - an increase of around 26% compared to last year - Brazil will be the big honoree at gamescom in recognition of the important development hub that the country has become," says Rodrigo Terra, president of Abragames.
The tribute to the national games industry is the result of a partnership led by Abragames with the German Games Industry Association, also through Brazil Games.
As a result, the country will feature prominently in the fair's exhibition hall in Cologne/Germany, taking part in the opening ceremony, having a stand with the presence of national studios and fulfilling an extensive schedule of commitments.
Abragames at Gamescom 2023
Other activities include meetings, round tables, business rounds, project presentations and lectures. At devcom, Brazil is coordinating a panel on the 22nd on "How to do business with Brazil", with the participation of Rodrigo Terra, president of Abragames, Gustavo Steinberg, CEO of the BIG Festival, Carolina Caravana, vice-president of Abragames, and Fábio Cesnik, from CQS/FV Law Firm. Also on the 22nd, some Brazilian studios will be exhibiting their games at Courage Cologne @devcom Developer Night. This event will take place from 19:00 to 23:50.
On the 23rd, in addition to an event to kick off gamescom activities at the Brazil Games stand, there will be important meetings, such as with Google, and a networking lunch promoted by the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The following day, the highlight will be the panel "The Power of Brazil. Rebuilding the audiovisual sector through games and diversity", which will also feature Rodrigo Terra and Gustavo Steinberg, as well as partners such as Ricardo Chantilly, from the non-governmental organization Afrogames; Cláudia Gonçalves, from the Federal Government's Ministry of Culture, and Eros Silva, from ApexBrasil.
About the AfroGames project
The AfroGames project, the first and only training center for e-Sports athletes in favelas, will also be part of the Brazilian gaming delegation and will be with five young people, professional players and content creators, in Germany during gamescom. Aged between 18 and 25, Renan Macedo, Márcio Corrêa, Caio Luiz Mendes, Maria Luiza dos Santos and Maria Luiza do Nascimento Santos, residents of Vigário Geral, Complexo da Maré and other communities in Rio, were invited by Abragames to take part in the 2023 edition of the event, which will pay homage to Brazil.
They will show some skills and strategies in electronic games such as League of Legends (LoL), Fortnite, FreeFire and Valorant, present the project they are part of in Brazil and tell how the initiative has changed their lives, even helping them to have a career - some young people are already developing game programs and taking part in international digital gaming championships.
At the event, the young people will also take part in the TikTok AfroGames Squad, producing content for TikTok for at least a year, with an emphasis on diversity, inclusion and combating misinformation. For the action, they will receive a grant from the platform to develop as players and content creators.

Among the games that will be exhibited during gamescom are: Horla (Mr. Dev Studio), Cangaceiro (Ignite Game Studio), Midnight Dreams (Extraordinary Games), MATINTA (Eter Games), BlackThorte Keeps - Chronicles (Limiar Studios), Manchester City Freestyle Academy (HERMIT CRAB GAME STUDIO), Tower of Samsara: Hidden Treasures (Ilex Games), O.U.T.T (Ilex Games), Lux Ex: Cyber Initiation (Ilex Games), Chessarama (Minimol Games), Winged (Druzina Content), LAIzy Picture Phone (Canvas Games), Music Rush (Canvas Games), The Light of the Darkness (QUARTOMUNDO) and Gaucho and the Grassland (Epopeia Games).
After DevCom and gamescom, 11 of the studios in the Brazilian delegation will embark on the Finland Mission, a trip to the Nordic country that also aims to generate new business and expand Brazilian projects.
In Helsinki, the developers will have an agenda full of meetings with important figures in the local ecosystem, which is well known to large gaming companies, especially in the mobile segment. Mission Finland is organized by Business Finland with the support of Abragames.
