While at times the video game industry falls into sameness, another part is always innovating and dazzling players, especially if we're talking about independent studios.
We've seen some great releases in the souls genre from indie studios, such as Lies of P, Thymesia, Deathbound and even Black Myth: Wukong.
But if you really want to see innovation in the genre, Another Crab's Treasure is the perfect game for this. After all, where have you seen a game where you can control a crab at the bottom of the sea?

Kril has a debt to pay
I often say that a good game doesn't always need a good story, but it always needs a good motivation. And that Another Crab's Treasure seems to be able to deliver to the player right from the start.
Kril, the titular crab, lived peacefully on the beach after finding the perfect shell, but one "fine day", the Shark Shark acts on behalf of the Countess, the new owner of the area, and ends up taking his shell after Kril doesn't have the money to pay the tax on his dwelling.
The ocean is no longer the same
Kril ends up setting off in search of money to pay the tax and, of course, get his shell back, but it seems that things are no longer as they should be.
An infection called goo has changed the behavior of all beings, making the end of marine life imminent. Something that can be taken as a great reference to environmental problems, such as ocean pollution, caused by oil, fuels and other chemical products, as well as waste materials such as plastic, iron, glass, paper and untreated domestic and industrial sewage, which are improperly disposed of in the ocean.
Another Crab's Treasure has fun combat and lots of charisma
With a lot of charisma and a gameplay that borders on soulslite, Another Crab's Treasure manages to keep players hooked for around 15 to 25 hours of gameplay.
The game follows the mold of the soulslike games already known, without any major differences, but with the characteristic use of shells that you can find in the ocean.
These shells have a different defense value, durability and special abilities, and are basically your build in a conventional souls. But in this case, you can't use the same shell from the beginning to the end of the game, unless you don't lose it or always look for an identical one.
Is Another Crab's Treasure worth playing?
Another Crab's Treasure is an extremely fun and charismatic soulslike, and unlike most games in the genre, it can be used as a gateway, as it is simpler, not so difficult and has good difficulty and accessibility options (you can even use a pistol).
However, we should make it clear that life in the ocean can be a little quiet, and it's probably the most "salt-free" souls (even though it's set in a saltwater sea) that I've ever played. After all, even though it's creative, it still can't match the themes and settings of games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, NiOh, Wo Long, Bloodborne and more.
Another Crab's Treasure is now available for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series e Nintendo Switch.
