'Gran Turismo: From Racer to Gamer' opens in cinemas on August 24th

Starring David Harbour and Orlando Bloom, the film features Archie Madekwe in the role of pilot Jann Mardenborough

What do a young man obsessed with video games, a former racing driver and a car marketing executive have in common? A single dream: to risk everything to enter one of the world's most elite sports, motor racing. On August 24, "Gran Turismo: From Racer to Player", an incredible true story based on the career of Jann Mardenborough, one of the most unlikely racing drivers of all time, opens in cinemas across Brazil.

Starring Archie Madekwe (Jann), the young man is passionate about the video game of the same name, which simulates motor racing. His dream, however, is to quit the console and drive a real car, a desire disapproved of by his father, Steave (Djimon Hounso), a former soccer player who doesn't understand his son's passion for games.

His destiny changes when Danny Moore (Orlando Bloom), Nissan's marketing executive, promotes an unusual contest: the best "Gran Turismo" players will compete against each other to win a place in the Nissan team and compete in the world's most famous races, such as the 24h Le Mans tournament. But transforming young gamers into top-level athletes is not going to be an easy task. Taking on the challenge is Jack (David Harbour), a failed ex-pilot who is going to squeeze every last drop of sweat out of the kids and turn them into true champions.

"When I read the script, I couldn't believe it was based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough," comments director Neill Blomkamp. "The events in the movie are almost exactly as they happened in real life." For producer Doug Belgrad, "Gran Turismo has all the qualities of a great sports underdog story. Jann has a dream, but it's underestimated by everyone - especially the established racing community, who say it's impossible."

According to Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions and producer of the film, the success of the game "'Gran Turismo" may be because "most of us will never set foot in a racing car or face a Le Mans race. But the game puts you in the driver's seat. That's what we wanted to capture with the movie, which does it in two ways: first, against all odds, Jann Mardenborough had the chance to experience all this in real life, and to tell the story, Neill Blomkamp made the most exciting and realistic racing movie I can imagine."

"Gran Turismo: From Player to Racer" is produced by Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions/2.0 Entertainment. Darren Barnet and Geri Halliwell Horner also star in the film.
