Netherrealm Studios and RTS announce Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition

Mortal Kombat 1

NetherRealm Studios and RTS today announced the Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition, a new global eSports program managed by RTS focusing on the latest chapter of the iconic Mortal Kombat video game franchise. Featuring a total prize pool of 255,000 dollars, the new league aims to build an international ecosystem of players, and will kick off on October 20 at the East Coast Throwdown fighting game tournament. The Pro Kompetiton will end with 20 players competing in the Final Kombat World Championship event in June 2024. For more information on the Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition, visit @NRSEsports.

Qualification for the Final Kombat World Championship will take place via the Pro Kompetition global leaderboard or the regional league finals. Each event will follow a 1-on-1 double elimination bracket. There will be four Pro Kompetition partner in-person events for all players to compete in, including East Coast Throwdown in Stamford, Connecticut, USA (October 20-22, 2023), Ultimate Fighting Arena in Paris, France (November 24-26, 2023), a stage in São Paulo, Brazil (date to be confirmed) and Combo Breaker in Schaumburg, Illinois, USA (May 2024). Players can compete in all partner events for the chance to win a place in the Final Kombat World Championship.

Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition will also feature three regional programs made up of segmented sub-regions, including three online qualifying events and a Regional Final. The three regions include the North American League (North America East and North America West), Kombat International (Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Oceania and the Middle East) and the Latin League (Brazil, Mexico, Northern South America and Southern South America). The top 8 players from each region will secure their ticket to the online Regional Final for the chance to qualify for the Final Kombat World Championship.

The Final Kombat World Championship will introduce a new competitive format, starting with the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) tournament for the 20th place player. The LCQ will be operated with open registration, on a first-come, first-served basis, for 256 fighters to compete in a double-elimination bracket. The winner will advance to the Group Stage, with the 20 players divided into four groups of five players each. The groups will be decided by regional qualification and ranking, and will play matches against all the other groups, to advance two players from each. The top 8 players will compete in a double elimination bracket, with all players starting on the winner's side. The distribution will be determined based on group placement.
