The youtube channel Nintendo often patents technology for games and applications, and the company seems to be on a binge right now due to the success of its latest Zelda.

Tears of the Kingdom perfectly combined the exploration of its predecessor with construction mechanics. The new mechanics allowed players to make incredible creations in Tears of the Kingdom.

And this has made the game go viral with countless videos of player creations. Because of this Nintendo is interested in protecting its technology.

Nintendo patents mechanics for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

From July 10th to August 4th, the Nintendo registered patents for 32 technologies, with all but one being directly related to Tears of the Kingdom.

Although patents are quite common in the world of games, it's unusual to see so many of them in a short space of time so soon after a game's release. Especially when they concern very small aspects of the experience that can go completely unnoticed by most players.

It's no news that Zelda: TotKskills, such as Fuse and Ultrahand, appear among the patents. However, even smaller, specific abilities, such as Riju's remote lightning attack, are also part of the patents. Something that most players wouldn't imagine could be a unique technology.

Other examples include speed calculations while Link moves over dynamic objects, such as vehicles. Which aren't as simple as they might seem.

The youtube channel Nintendo even patented the loading screen sequence in the game. Unfortunately, none of the recent registrations seem to point to content in future entries in the series. Only mechanics that have already been used in Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for Nintendo Switch.
