Razer, the world's leading lifestyle brand for gamers, has announced another important milestone in its commitment to a sustainable future. From 2024, its new PC peripherals will use recycled materials in their manufacture, mainly in three categories: mice, keyboards and headsets. Initially, the action will focus on models produced in Razer's iconic black color, and over time other product categories will be included in the initiative.
Razer has already been using recycled materials in the manufacture of some of its products, two of which are now available to the public. The Razer DeathAdder V2 X HyperSpeed gaming mouse has 40% made from recycled materials and the Razer Ornata V3 gaming keyboard, in its "clicky" version, has at least 20%.
With these successful integrations, both products have met stringent sustainable criteria and have been awarded the ECOLOGO UL 2809 seal, an eco-label certification verified by UL Solutions, an independent company and world leader in testing, inspection and certification. From now on, Razer is expanding the program to cover an even wider range of products with this profile, including all upcoming major PC peripheral launches.
“Os jogadores de hoje buscam inovação e desempenho, mas estão totalmente conscientes do impacto que os plásticos têm no mundo”, afirma Kenneth Ng, head de Sustentabilidade na Razer. “Ao utilizar materiais reciclados e trabalhar para tornar seus produtos mais recicláveis, a Razer cumpre novamente suas promessas e demonstra um trabalho concreto para melhorar a circularidade dos produtos e reduzir o impacto ambiental.”
In addition to the inclusion of recycled materials in manufacturing, Razer continues to explore the recyclability of its products in order to further minimize the environmental impact of each of them at their "end of life". Through its use of recycled materials and recyclability initiatives, Razer is reducing the amount of virgin raw materials needed to manufacture its products.
The world's first consumer products with UL EPD certification
At the RazerCon 2023 online conference, Razer announced that it had submitted two of its products for Environmental Product Declaration analysis certified by UL Solutions. Now, the brand is pleased to announce that both the Razer Basilisk V3 Pro and the Razer Basilisk Ultimate are the first consumer electronics products in the world to receive this certification. UL Solutions is a global leader in applied safety science and is present in more than 100 countries with its independent services.
The new label allows consumers to make better-informed purchasing decisions and to be aware of the product's carbon footprint, as well as the amount of water, minerals and fossil resources used. All the information is displayed on the respective packaging.
With the Basilisk V3 Pro and Basilisk Ultimate certifications, Razer is also fulfilling its commitment to submit its activities to independent verification of environmental impact. This allows gamers to make environmentally friendly choices, with full transparency from the manufacturer about the resources used to make the products.
In this way, Razer offers gamers innovative, high-quality and high-performance products, while at the same time meeting the strict standards of the Product Category Rules. The brand's commitment to these issues remains strong and Razer will continue to submit more and more products to this type of analysis.
Since the launch of the ten-year sustainability plan #GoGreenWithRazer in 2021, Razer has already achieved several milestones on its journey. This includes the adoption of the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) reporting framework, which details Razer's decarbonization strategy in line with SBT (Science Based Targets).
In 2022, Razer also achieved the goal of having all corporate offices powered by 100% renewable energy sources - three years ahead of the 2025 target - and became the first consumer electronics brand in the world to take a stand against deep mining of minerals in the oceans. With the brand's latest sustainability announcements at CES, Razer continues its journey to ensure that the world remains a safe place for everyone to play.
