The Outer Worlds 2 may not be exclusive to Xbox

The Outer Worlds 2

O Xbox is leaving the door open for one of its next first-party games, The Outer Worlds 2potentially be launched on the PlayStation.

The Outer Worlds 2 is currently announced for PC e Xbox Series X/Sbut according to new comments from the head of the Xbox Game Studios, Matt BootyIt is possible that it will also reach the platforms PlayStation.

To say that the future multiplatform support of Xbox for specific games, The Outer Worlds 2 or not, is tenuous and political would be an understatement, however.

After the acquisition of Bethesda, o Xbox followed through with all the new division's contracts for games planned for devices PlayStation. Deathloop e Ghostwire: Tokyo are the two complete examples of this.

Since then, the Bethesda are exclusive to platforms compatible with Xbox. Hi-Fi Rush, Redfall and the next release of Starfield are exclusive to PC e Xbox Series X/S.

The decision to make Bethesda exclusives has been controversial, but there is no indication that the Xbox has reconsidered the practice.

The Outer Worlds 2 could end up being a multiplatform game

The Outer Worlds 2 may be in a unique situation that could lead to it being launched on the platforms PlayStation in the future, moving away from the current practices of the Xbox.

As part of a deposition scheduled for a federal trial linked to the acquisition of the Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, Matt Booty discussed the potential exclusivity of The Outer Worlds 2. Booty explained that a decision "not taken" about whether The Outer Worlds 2 would be launched on PlayStation.

As for why The Outer Worlds 2 could reach the platforms PlayStation and not to other games, Booty provides a sensible explanation. He says that Microsoft can launch The Outer Worlds 2 in PlayStation because there's already been a community there since the first game. In other words Xbox may want to remain committed to this audience, rather than passing them by.

Another possibility for Booty to say that is to do Xbox look better in front of a judge. It is entirely possible, if not extremely likely, that The Outer Worlds 2 is still exclusive to PC e Xbox Series X/S.

Booty can simply be a posture to make it look like the Xbox is not as competitive as it seems. Or, more specifically, to show that it may not necessarily make Call of Duty exclusive as the Sony states that Microsoft will do.

The Outer Worlds 2 is in development for PC e Xbox Series X/S.
