The Sims 4: Taking the Reins - Review

The Sims 4 Taking the Reins Review

Adding horse riding to The Sims 4, the expansion "Taking the reins" arrived on July 20 for all platforms, and brings a real "old west" vibe.

Expansion Taking the reins of The Sims 4 will allow you and your sim to spend your days taking care of the animals, producing nectar, interacting with the horses, mini goats, mini sheep and, of course, having a real life on the ranch.

A life where you can meet new friends in the bar, or relax in the ballroom that the new city offers you. "Taking the reins" adds another layer of immersion to the game that was missing.

CAS for The Sims 4: Taking the Reins

Starting with the most crucial part of The Sims 4In the CAS of The Sims 4: Taking the reinsThe main feature is the many boots, hats and clothes that fit the cowboy aesthetic, doing justice to the horses.

Adults have two new aspirations, which are "Championship Rider e "Expert Nectar Maker. Two new traits are also available, "Horse Lover" and "Rancher".

These aspirations and traits will impact on the performance and enjoyment of the sim in doing the things that enhance the bond with the animals and the new domestic tasks that are available in Taking the reins.

Horse breeding

Of course, the CAS of Taking the reins I couldn't miss horse breeding, and that's something the expansion really hits home with.

You have 35 different breeds to choose from for your horse, some of which are the American Paint Horse, Anglo-Arabian and Mustang. In addition to the breed, you can customize the horse's body type, coat color, coat pattern and attire.

What's more, if you want something more fanciful and fun, there's also an editing mode. In edit mode you can add a different look to your horses, such as a unicorn horn on a steed.

What's new in gameplay

Unfortunately, there aren't many new gameplay features, but they turn out to be quite relevant.

The first of the new gameplay features in The Sims 4: Taking the reins is horse riding. Each horse has four skills that you have to train them in. These skills are: temperament, agility, jumping and endurance.

These skills affect your competition skills, something you can do with your horses. In addition, of course, you need to feed them, clean the barn, play with them to have a good relationship with the sim and much more.

As for the longevity of your sims, the expansion adds the possibility of producing nectar. By producing nectar, you can share it with friends, family or even sell it to make an income for your family.

New interactions with the community are also available, such as Ranch Animal Day, country square dancing and a good barbecue.

Serra da Castanheira is the new city in The Sims 4: Taking the Reins

With three neighborhoods, 13 plot options (one of which is a vacant lot, and three with a free house to be purchased), the town of Serra da Castanheira is one of the biggest highlights of the expansion "Taking the reins" of The Sims 4.

The region has a place to swim with your acquaintances. There's also a secret cave and numerous accessible places to take your horses. In addition, of course, to the good old mysteries that Maxis always puts on the maps of The Sims.

Is it worth playing The Sims 4: Taking Charge?

If you've read this far, you're probably a fan of The Sims 4. That alone is a good reason to be interested in expansion.

In fact, the expansion Taking the reins adds good things to the game, such as horseback riding, nectar making, new community interactions and an interesting world to explore, whether on foot or on horseback.

However, despite good customization in CAS mode, it still leaves something to be desired, especially considering what the construction mode lacks.

In both modes, you can feel a considerable lack of children's novelties, even the "Horse Lover" trait isn't available, something that could be. You won't find many themed toys for children either.

Items for the horses can also be a little scarce, although the ones that are there are interesting.

But even so, the whole vibe that the expansion gives off is very cozy. What's more, all the additions are very welcome and add a lot to the game. That said, a fan of the franchise will definitely love entering the world of "Taking the reins"

Finally, The Sims 4: Taking the reins is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
