Phil Spencer apparently made a "big decision" to make all games ZeniMax exclusive to Xbox at a meeting in November 2021. This revelation came to light as part of the final day of testimony at the hearing of the Microsoft to FTC this week.
During the time of the CFO of Xbox, Tim Stuartin the witness box, the FTC drew attention to a chat conversation from November 2021 between Stuart e Matt Booty, of Xbox.
The two were talking about a recent monthly business analysis meeting between Xbox e ZeniMaxwhere Spencer apparently made the connection to make all the games ZeniMax exclusive from now on, not just new IP. Stuart was asking Booty about what happened during the meeting.
"Every game from now on?" asked Stuart. "Not just new IP, but EVERY game from now on? Wow."
All ZeniMax games to become Xbox exclusives
Booty confirmed this during the chat conversation by writing: "Phil [Spencer] told them all the titles from now on will be exclusive to Xbox".
The two discussed how to remove all the titles from the Bethesda of PlayStation would cause profit problems in the business model of the Microsoft and ZeniMax. "We will have [accountability margin] problems in the agreement model as we remove a large number of PS units from the model," he noted Stuart.
This means that the projected profits of Xbox and ZeniMax after the acquisition took into account the launch of some Bethesda in PlayStationbefore that decision came from Spencer.
