Blizzard takes the stage at BlizzCon 2023; announces the next three World of Warcraft expansions, the first expansion for Diablo IV, a new hero in Overwatch and much more!
World of Warcraft: The War Within, the first of three expansions in the Soul of the Universe Saga, will arrive in 2024. Diablo IV: Reptacle of Hate and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic will arrive in 2024. Warcraft Rumble is now available, Overwatch 2 announces a new hero, map and game mode, Hearthstone announces Doubles on the Battlefield and much more.
BlizzCon® 2023 kicked off in Anaheim, California, where Blizzard Entertainment celebrated gamer communities live and in person for the first time in four years at the industry's benchmark event.
Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Ybarra kicked off this morning's event by expressing his gratitude for the studio's millions of players around the world. "BlizzCon isn't just about the latest Blizzard news, it's about all of you. Gamers are at the forefront of everything we do, and we are committed to supporting these incredible communities," he said. "All of us - gamers, developers and fans - are united by our shared love of games."
Then, the developers of all of Blizzard's major titles made announcements during the convention's opening ceremony. Some of the highlights include:
The teams have begun a bold new chapter in the nearly 30-year-old Warcraft franchise, bringing new stories and experiences to various games set in the legendary world of Azeroth.
- World of Warcraft®: The War Within™ is the first chapter of Soul of the Universe Saga™, an ambitious creative undertaking for the Warcraft universe.
- The vision for the Soul of the Universe Saga was announced to players around the world live on stage, including two expansions after The War Within - World of Warcraft®: Midnight™ e World of Warcraft®: The Last Titan™.
- In this expansion scheduled for release in 2024, players will travel to the new continent of Khaz Algar, as an ancient civilization rises to power in the depths of the planet.
- Warcraft Rumble™, the first Warcraft game designed from the ground up for mobile devices, is now available for iOS and Android!
- With more than 70 different quests, as well as weekly and monthly challenges set in dungeons in different parts, PvP and much more, Warcraft Rumble is filled with the authentic atmosphere of Warcraft, created by a long-standing team in this universe.
- An action-packed strategy game, Rumble invites players to form armies with their favorite characters from the Warcraft universe and battle to test their tactical skills.
- World of Warcraft Classic invites players to return to Azeroth once again and embark on a new journey, with a difference!
- The third expansion for Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft, originally released in December 2010, returns with a faster pace of content, improvements to level progression, an expanded Collections UI, a new difficulty level for the post-launch Dungeon Group Finder and much more!
- And then, in 2024, Classic players will witness the world breaking up (again) into World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic™!
- In Season of DiscoveryPlayers will embark on a new adventure in which exploration and experimentation will be key to unlocking new skills for their characters.
- Two heads think better than one in Hearthstone® Doubles on the Battlefield, an exciting and truly collaborative way to play that will be added to the popular game mode in 2024.
- Two players can join forces and strategize together, sharing cards, life and resources as they use special Duo cards and synergies to achieve victory together!
- With a campaign that continues the dark story begun in Diablo® IV: Hate receptacle™ brings players back to discover the fate of the supreme evil Mephisto and his demonic plans for Sanctuary.
- Travel to the lush jungles known to the locals as Nahantu and explore new ways of playing, with a completely new Class in the Diablo universe. Hate receptacle will be launched at the end of 2024, and more details will be shared next summer.
- Players can expect much more this year with the Season of Blood, which brings new end-game experiences and the holiday event The Winter Plague that will take place before the end of the season.
- Mauga is coming to Overwatch® 2 as the game's newest tank hero!
- Players can try out this new hero during a limited time trial this weekend ahead of its release in Season 8.
- The Overwatch team also revealed that there is much more to come, including the new PvP game mode called Embattle, in which players will visit the new Hanaoka map, inspired by a fan favorite, Hanamura.
The youtube channel BlizzCon 2023 is a two-day event, broadcast live from the Anaheim Convention Center on the YouTube e TwitchBlizzard's first-ever game festival, with in-person activations and activities that bring together developers and players to celebrate the gaming communities around Blizzard's main intellectual properties.
