Mortal Kombat 1 gets a 90s-inspired commercial

The youtube channel Warner Bros. Games released today a new trailer for the live action release of Mortal Kombat 1the next chapter in the acclaimed video game franchise developed by the award-winning NetherRealm Studios, scheduled for release on September 19.

Entitled "It's In Our Blood", the new trailer was directed by Tom Kuntz with photography by Oscar nominee Matthew Libatique (A Star is Born), and pays homage to the classic commercial "Mortal Monday which was released in 1993 and marked a cultural moment for the gigantic game series.

In a reinterpretation of the iconic television commercial that first aired 30 years ago, the trailer features actor and producer Dave Bautista bringing together people from different social circles and guiding them to unleash their inner struggle.

The role of Bautista reflects that of Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat 1who has created a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe and must gather champions from all realms to fight and protect his vision for his new world.

"I vividly remember the original Mortal Monday commercial, especially that iconic scream," said Bautista. "That's what started my journey as a Mortal Kombat fan, which continues to this day, 30 years later. I'm very excited and honored to be part of the game's legacy."

"It's incredible to pay tribute to such a memorable moment in Mortal Kombat history as we prepare to launch our newest game, Mortal Kombat 1."

Mortal Kombat 1 arrives on September 14th for PC, PlayStation 5, The Xbox Series e Nintendo Switch.
