The long-time developer of Saints Row, Volitionhas apparently come to an end. The series Saints Row is one of the biggest gaming franchises, as it is one of the few games released to compete against Grand Theft Auto and it really succeeded.

It was able to find an angle on the open-world crime genre and make something new out of it. Players were able to build their own gang from scratch and watch it evolve over the course of several games.

Until the protagonist became a super-powered president who was fighting aliens. Things got very complicated after the fourth game, leading to a complete reboot to be released in 2022.

Volition shut down after failure of new Saints Row

Unfortunately, the reboot of Saints Row was met with a negative reception. The game was incredibly buggy, looked dated, and the general tone and direction of the reboot didn't please players.

Now that the game has been out for a year and has released its final DLC, developer Volition is closing its doors. The news comes after a group of the studio's employees used Twitter to inform the company that they had been fired and that the Volition was going through a total studio shutdown.

The studio itself Volition has been around since 1996 and has worked on other franchises besides Saints Rowsuch as the Red Faction. So far, it's not clear what will come of these IPs going forward, but if they continue, it will be under different developers.
