Insomniac Games unveils Venom in-game visuals for Spider-Man 2

Before tomorrow's panel at San Diego Comic-Con, a Insomniac Games shared a first full look at Venom's design in Spider-Man 2 outside of conceptual art, as well as going into detail about its creation and the involvement of Tony Todd with the character.

We've known for some time that Venom will be one of the main villains of Spider-Man 2 next to Kraven the Hunter. But we've seen very little of him apart from a brief tease at the end of the reveal trailer and a photo of him fighting Peter and Miles in some of the game's concept art.

That hasn't stopped Insomniac to reveal some important details about the character and start theories about who his host will be, but now he's finally shown his full design in the game. Check out the gameplay trailer below!

Insomniac Games revealed Venom's appearance in Spider-Man 2 at SDCC

Our first complete look at Venom in the game comes courtesy of a Entertainment Weekly. Which was released as a preview of what will be shown in the San Diego Comic-Con tomorrow.

Before we delve into some of the background details of how Venom appeared in the game, let's first discuss the screenshot showing his design, which is suitably gooey, scary and full of teeth. He's pretty much what you'd expect Venom to look like.

Unfortunately, this image of Venom is all we can see in the Entertainment Weekly. But a few more details were fortunately revealed in the article that deal with the creation of the character and the work that Tony Todd put on his performance.

Bryan Intiharsenior creative director at Insomniac Games. He said that climbing Venom was one of the things the team avoided doing for as long as possible. Because we knew it would be very important for the game.

Intihar also said he was interested in Todd to do the voice after hearing him in Candyman. And, that he had actually already sent in an audition tape, which was obviously successful.

Intihar said: "Everything we talked about (with) Venom - that sense of strength, that sense of fear, that sense of overwhelming, so different from Peter - Tony embraces that completely in the performance."

Finally, about the look that Insomniac chose for Venom and how it was decided, the senior art director Jacinda Chew he says:

"One of the challenges we had throughout production was, how much does (Venom) talk? I remember we did some concepts early on (of) Does Venom have lips? Does he laugh? Does he smile? Does he frown? It's a fine line between making this creature scary and intimidating, but also, I think, relatable."

In a nutshell, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 arrives on October 20th exclusively for PlayStation 5.
